grow baby grow

June 18, 2010

for those of you that have been asking about my “little white farmhouse with a big garden”

here’s what’s going on inside the vegetable fence:

leeks & onions, garlic & brussels sprouts, seeded asparagus.

daikon, radishes, kohlrabi & turnips, carrots, beets.

rutabagas & scallions.

100% no blight tomatoes (please!)

future sauerkraut & kimchi!

tall telephone peas – i know, not so tall yet.

cutting lettuce, arugula & purslane sprouts, kale, chard, cauliflower & broccoli

peppers & chiles, eggplant, cukes

and some things outside the fence:

prepared melon bed

blueberries, gooseberries, monster-rhubarb, prepared winter squash bed (below rhubarb).
prepared perennial herb beds (either side of steps).

if you have any land at all, terrace, windowsill, or window i say: grow baby grow!

if you have yet to let your inner farmer out, head over to your local farmer’s market and support your local farms and farmers. cause it’s a horn o’ plenty out there right now!

…and check out this month’s saveur magazine – a whole issue in celebration of farmer’s markets around the world!

happy weekend!

:)
